Wilber Henry Ellis, 88, of Terre Haute passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, February 28, 2021. He was born in Independence, Missouri, on September 10, 1932. He was the son of Daisy and Frank Ellis. He was married to the love of his life Wilma Jean on May 29, 1952, she preceded him in death.

Wilber was a loyal and dedicated employee of 44 years at American Water where he retired as distribution superintendent. As a young man he proudly served his country in the Naval Reserves for 12 years. He enjoyed filling his free time with family and friends camping. Jean and Wilber were members of the Holiday Rambler Club for many years. They were also avid bowlers. Together they were apart of many leagues where Wilber obtained the coveted 300 game along with numerous other awards. For relaxation, Wilber was highly creative and artistic. He enjoyed drawing, painting, and he loved spending time in his workshop where he spent countless hours on various woodworking projects. Wilber was a devoted member of Unity Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder and Trustee. He was also a proud 2nd degree Mason. Wilber served as a 50 + year member of the Charity Zeredatha Masonic Lodge #189. Most of all Wilber was proudly devoted to his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many friends whom he considered family.

Wilber is survived by 1 daughter: Cheryl Hamilton; 5 grandchildren: Brad (Brandy) Ellis, Matthew (Whitney) Slaughter, Joseph (Melissa) Bennett, Jamie (Josh) Gutzwiller, and Brandon (Sarah) Ellis. Also surviving are 15 great-grandchildren: Ethan and Erika Ellis, Lexi and Keith Holder, Madison, Olivia, and Anavey Slaughter, Skye, Huxley, and Chloe Bennett, Taylor and Grayson Hill, and Conner, Caysen, and Addisyn Ellis.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter and son-in-law Connie (Joe) Bennett; and son Larry Ellis.

The family would like to offer their heartfelt thanks to Heart-to-Heart Hospice for their loving care of Wilber.

A celebration of life will be held at Unity Presbyterian Church located at 1207 East Springhill Drive in Terre Haute, Indiana on Saturday March 13, 2021 at 3 pm. Cremation has been chosen and care entrusted to Greiner Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute, Indiana, 47804.
