
George Thomas Hewitt, 89, of Brazil entered into the presence of his Savior July 15, 2021. He was born in Springfield, IL to George and Opal Hewitt. His father was a minister and evangelist and later a missionary to Jamaica. George graduated high school in Chicago and attended 68 years of marriage in February. George pastored churches in St. Petersburg, FL, Olmsted Falls, OH, Eastside Christian Church, Brazil, and Brazil Church of the Nazarene.
He served as chairman of the Clay County Emergency Food Pantry, and chairman of the Wabash Valley Christian Men’s Fellowship. He received a Clay County Focus award in 1993. He also served on the Local Coordinating Council of the Governor’s Task Force, and a committee member of the Clay County Advisory Board of the Indiana Manpower Placement and Comprehensive Training Council.
He was preceded in death by his wife Beverly in August 2019, parents George and Opal Hewitt, his sister, Mary Campbell, and grandson Jonathan Hewitt. He is survived by his sister Joyce Davis (Northbrook, IL), brother Marvin Anderson (Northbrook, IL), 4 children: Rebecca Hewitt (Kendalville), Thomas Hewitt and wife Joyce (Brazil), Ronald Hewitt and wife Monica (Seward, Alaska), and Jonathan Hewitt and wife Rebecca (Noblesville): as well as over 15 grandchildren and 20+ great grandchildren.
His wishes are that memorials be toward Pioneer Bible Translators. His grandson Tyler Hewitt (Northview HS and Indiana State University graduate) and wife Emily and son Norman Dean are missionaries in Papua New Guinea with Pioneer Bible Translators.
