
Kathleen A. Murphy, 75, of Terre Haute, passed away Friday July 29, 2022 in her residence. Kathy was born October 9, 1946 in Springfield, IL., to Benedict Schwar and Frances O’Brien Schwar. She was retired from the state of Indiana Department of Child Protective Services as a case worker, after retirement she worked at the Grand Canyon and the Grand Teton’s which had been a long time goal of hers. After retiring and returning to Terre Haute, she worked for many years at the Terre Haute House Hilton Gardens. She was a former board member and volunteer at Community Theatre of Terre Haute and a volunteer at Hospice of the Wabash Valley and an active participant of her bible study group where she was a greeter and made many special friends, she enjoyed spending time with her neighbors and developed close relationships with them throughout the over 36 years that she lived there. Kathy always had a smile on her face and made friends wherever she went. She was an eternal optimist and never let the challenges of life cause her to lose her beautiful smile and positive outlook. She loved to read and spent many hours at the library, often taking her children there when they were young. She loved her children and grandchildren unconditionally, she was their biggest cheerleader. She is survived by her daughter, Jessica Murphy of Indianapolis, a son, Morgan Murphy (Anna) of Germantown, TN. She is survived by two brothers; John “Jack” Schwar of Chicago and Patrick Schwar (Kathleen) of Webster, NY. She is survived by five grandchildren; Katy, Micah, Clair, Margaret and Emily. She was preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Schwar and a sister Meredith Schwar. She loved her dog Jack who was her loving companion. A gathering of family of friends will be on Wednesday August 3, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. until service time at 6:00 p.m. at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute, IN 47804. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers that contributions be made to Grand Canyon Conservancy, envelopes will be available at the Funeral Home or you can donate on line at Protect.grandcanyon.org
