Madonna Jane Steward passed away peacefully with her great granddaughter by her side on October 20th, 2023. She was born on May 27th, 1935, to Thomas and Sarah ( Tucker) Jackson.

 

She is preceded in death by her husband of 69 years Ernest Steward. They married on June 13th, 1953. Also, her parents and seven siblings Cleo, Virgina, Audrey, Dale, Paul Thomas, Clyde, and Wanda.

 

She is survived by her only child Jacquelyn Steward, grandchildren Christopher Swander and Holly Homburg ( Travis), great grandchildren Sarah Ellis ( Brandon), Logan Stevens, and Gavin Stevens, great-great grandchildren Conner, Caysen, and Addisyn Ellis, several nieces and nephews, and longtime friend Neva McFarland.

 

Madonna graduated from Gerstmeyer in 1953. Madonna was the secretary of her class, along with being on the homecoming court her senior year. She also was a cheerleader throughout her high school career. Madonna was a member of the First Church of Nazarene Madonna’s biggest passion was singing. She sang throughout the community including in the church choir. Every Tuesday you would catch Madonna at Vigo Bowl with her best friend Pat Funk as she was on a bowling team for over 40 years.

 

Madonna worked for many years as a housekeeper and nanny for several people across the Wabash Valley, including the Vanlandingham’s who were very special to Madonna and her family.

Madonna loved cooking, tending to her animals, which ranged from cats, dogs, fish, and birds, and decorating her home.

 

Madonna was world renowned for her lack of patience, not holding back her opinion, and telling it like it is.
