On December 15, 2023 at 96 years old, Mildred Lucille Johnson joined the Church Triumphant with the Lord Jesus Christ in heaven. Mildred was born on June 7, 1927 on her grandfather’s farm located on the Clay/Vigo County line in Indiana. She was a very proud Hoosier. She was born to Eugene and Nellie Brink following a tornado which destroyed the barn and injured her mother. Mildred was raised on the family farm and attended Fontanet High School in Vigo County. Mildred worked at Pell’s Bargain Mart in Brazil during the early 1960’s as a cashier and then in 1967 moved to Mundelein, Illinois and worked in the research lab of Continental Grain until 1987 when she retired. After retirement she moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to be near her sons and their families. In Baton Rouge, she accepted a job of cleaning the Baton Rouge First Church of the Nazarene and met and made many new friends. Mildred’s pastor, her church family, and her special friends were very important to her.

Mildred is survived by three sons; Samuel Bryant (Jeannie), of Denham Springs, Louisiana, James Bryant (Karen) of Brazil and David Bryant of Brazil, one step son, Richard Johnson (Joni) of Tucson, Arizona. She has numerous grandchildren, and great grandchildren, a special sister-in-law, Rose June Pittsenbarger and a special nephew, Eric Pittsenbarger.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard G. Johnson and four grandchildren.

The family expresses its deep gratitude to the hospice staff at Elara Caring, to Hutsonwood of Brazil, and to Dr. Paul N. Houston and his wonderful staff.

A visitation will be held Friday, December 22nd from 12 – 1 P.M. at French Funeral Home, 421 East National Avenue in Brazil. A Celebration of Life, officiated by Pastor Marlin Betts will begin at 1 P.M. Burial will follow at Clearview Cemetery.
