It is with deep sorrow that we inform you of the passing of Lela Edna Barton Ellis. Lela was born in Jerseyville, IL to Tillman Barton and Velma Neisler Barton. A graduate of Roxana (IL) High School, she attended Baylor University. As a working mother she deftly balanced her work and home lives. She retired after many years with Allstate Insurance. She was preceded in death by her oldest son Eric Rohrkaste her brother Harold Barton, husband Ed Ellis and the father of her children Richard Rohrkaste. Lela lived her faith quietly, but strongly and was profoundly devoted to her family and friends. She was a beloved “Mom” and “Grandma” who made the worlds of those who knew her a better place. A lover of music, she was a longtime church pianist and a member of Sweet Harmony, a barbershop chorus. A lifelong learner. Lela was a devotee of the programs offered by the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at ISU. She is survived by her daughter Robin Crumrin (Tim) of Terre Haute and sons Kris Rohrkaste of Harpers Ferry, VA, Kirk Rohrkaste (Teresa) of Salisbury, NC and Fritz Rohrkaste of Albuquerque. NM. Grandchildren Sean, Jesica, April, Bonnie, Christopher, Dean, Heather, Justin and Brynn. And her Great-grandchildren Tanner, Kyle, Daisey, Vash, Quill, Ciaran and Rowan. Also surviving are her brother Don Barton (Vera) of Edwardsville, IL, sisters Rev. Marilyn Gebert (Jimmy) of Columbia City, In and Marcia Feldman (David) of Godfrey, IL and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Dr. Grace Lee Walker, Hospice of the Wabash Valley. Help at Home and Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute, IN 47804 for the care they provided. A private burial service will take place at Valhalla Cemetery in Godfrey, IL In lieu of flowers, the family asks those who wish to honor Lela’s life to make donations in her name to the Hospice of the Wabash Valley or the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Indiana State University.
