William Glenn Tennis. 69, of West Terre Haute, Indiana, peacefully passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2023, with the dignity enabled by Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care.

The alleged favorite child of Jerome and Wilma Jean (Brown) Tennis, Bill was raised on Terre Haute’s Willow Street and later on South Center Street, where lifelong friendships were forged.  During his senior year of high school, Bill began a 50 year career at Wabash Valley Goodwill Industries, retiring as its President and Chief Executive Officer in June 2021.  In his brief retirement, he traveled extensively and often entertained on his Concannon Hill farm.

Bill is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Crist, her husband Robert, and their children, Nolan Crist, Keira Anderson, Olivia Crist and Mia Anderson; his son, Joseph Tennis; and his daughter Sarah Tennis and her husband, Jeff Keilman.  Also surviving are his siblings, Jerry Tennis, David Tennis, his absolute favorite sister, Jane Tennis, and Ned Tennis and his wife, Lisa Petrulis.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Marci (2014), and his beloved “good yeller dog,” Mandella Suellen “Mandy,” (2022).

Bill’s close friendships were reflections of his wonderful childhood, work career and family and volunteer commitments.  Among those cherished friends are Robbie Beyers, Marlene Cox, John and Cathy Crispin, Dan Davis and Belinda Elliott, Jim and Loretta King, Malcolm Manning, John Nasser, Linda Olvey, Barry Powell, Sally Stewart, Jerry Tredanari, Perry Wilson and his very much-loved “favorite red-haired running buddy,” Colleen Chestnut.

Bill requested no funeral service, but we are mindful of his frequent assertion that he has “a birthday coming up.”  Accordingly, the family plans to host a reception on Bill’s 70th birthday, Saturday, February 10, 2024, to celebrate his wonderful life.  Details will be published, once planned.

Suggested memorial contributions are to the Bill and Marci Gropp Tennis Fund at the Wabash Valley Community Foundation.  Its address is 200 South 8th Street, Terre Haute, IN. 47807.  Its website is www.wvcf.org/bill-tennis .
