Vigo County School Board Makes Several Decisions At Monday’s Meeting

VIGO COUNTY, Ind. – The Vigo County School Board took a time at last night’s meeting to show respect for the loss of THPD Officer Rob Pitts.

School board leaders started Monday night’s meeting with a moment of silence in Pitts’ honor.

Officer Pitts worked at a variety of events for Vigo County Schools.

In other news, the board approved a recommendation to hire Crowe Horwath to review the district’s business practices and internal controls. The cost could be up to $35,000 depending on the services provided.  Crowe Horwath is a public accounting, consulting and technology firm.

This comes after a kickback scheme was uncovered that cost the Corporation over $100,000.  That money is expected to be recovered.

The board also approved renting time on the West Vigo track and field facilities to St Mary of the Woods College. They will pay the corporation $1,500 annually for use of the facility.  With that, women’s and men’s track and field are joining Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College’s athletic offerings for the 2019-20 season. The addition of these two varsity sports brings the Pomeroys’ expanding intercollegiate sports teams to 13.

The corporation will donate a used bus that is going out of service to Chances and Services for Youth for the organization to use on field trips.
